I hear all this talk about north strip and south strip and how you want to stay where you are planning on spending most your time. Im Just wondering how long the ';Strip'; is from Mandalay Bay to the Strat? I understand its a ways but some people that post make it sound like its 20 miles from one end to the other..
Strip distance!!
It%26#39;s exactly 6 miles, which would take an extremely long time by foot. So you might want to consider a cab.
Strip distance!!
I believe it%26#39;s approx. 3.5 - 4 miles from those 2 locations.
What gets everyone isn%26#39;t the fact that those are great distances but they (newbies) think the distances between casinos are closer than they realize due to size of each structure. Keep in mind that each casino-hotel you see is 40, or more, stories tall and just as wide.
I checked on google map, it%26#39;s exactly 6.0 miles. From Stratosphere to Mandalay.
6 miles didn%26#39;t seem that far to me... and then i went and saw it for myself.
we%26#39;re big walkers, often covering a much longer distance without issue at home...
however, the strip isn%26#39;t exactly a straight line. the walkways take you on little detours, overpasses etc adding extra distance.
when you factor in the heat, all the people you have to traverse through and (usually) alcohol in your system, it makes walking the entire strip from end to end a very unattractive idea.

here%26#39;s a walking map of the strip - please remember the times listed are just for walking from one place to another - does not include time wandering through the casinos or having to deal with slow moving pedesterians.
It%26#39;s about 10 miles.
Monkeyguy, thanks!
I keep telling people it%26#39;s only 4 miles. Maybe I%26#39;m the reason why people get upset over the distance!
You also have to factor in that many of the casinos on the Strip are actually set back a considerable distance from the Strip. It can take you as much as 15 minutes to get from the casino floor out to the street at some of the largest properties. When you add in the brutal summer heat, a walk of more than a couple of miles doesn%26#39;t seem as attractive as it might back home.
That having been said, Vegas isn%26#39;t hard to get around. It is very walkable (as long as you%26#39;re realistic), cabs are at every hotel and there is always the Deuce bus and the monorail. I would not feel like you have to stay right in the center Strip area. For my first Vegas trip I stayed at Luxor in the South Strip area and I had a great time. Also, there are three properties (Rio, Gold Coast, and Plams) that are just off-strip but easily accessible to and from the Strip by free shuttles.
Oops, that should have been Palms, not ';Plams';. I will have to pay better attention to my typing and not be so distant and Maloof.
LOL see what im saying 3 differnt distance 4,6,and 10 LOL but thanks monkey
