Where to park for Heavenly?

Hi, i%26#39;ve never been to Tahoe before but will be in Sacramento on business on thursday. I plan to drive to South Lake Tahoe Thursday evening, stay at a yet to be determined cheap hotel/motel Thursday night and ski Heavenly on Friday. My question is which is the best entrance to the mountain? If i%26#39;m staying in the village should i just go to the gondola or is parking @ the California base simple and easy? after skiing i%26#39;m heading back to Sacramento for a red-eye back to the east coast. I%26#39;m checking out of the hotel before skiing so all my stuff will be in the rental car.

TIA.

Where to park for Heavenly?

There%26#39;s a fair sized lot at the California Base. There really isn%26#39;t any parking or free parking at the gondola. Friday it will be easier to find a spot than on the weekend. Also your cheapo hotel could have shuttle service or you could take the town shuttle service called Blue Go. Here%26#39;s a link:

Go to the California Base. But get there no later than 9 am. It is a big parking lot that can fill up rapidly after that time. Then it can be a long walk in ski boots to the chair lift!

The one negative about taking either the Blue Go or the Heavenly shuttles is that it can eat up your time. This may be a consideration leaving Friday afternoon. Already you are doomed with traffic problems getting back to Sacramento. There is no worse time to be on the highway! It might be better to have dinner at South Lake Tahoe, and travel later.

If you do use the shuttle, plan on one hour for wait time and the frequency of stops prior to your destination.

suzie-travels - when does the traffic on US 50 subside, returning to Sacramento?

In response to the question from State Ref - if you are driving from SLT to Sacramento on a Friday afternoon I%26#39;d say there really isn%26#39;t much of a challenge until you actually reach about Hazel Blvd. Pretty much everything before that is headed east. Once you hit about Hazel/Sunrise on the 50 corridor going west you begin the commuter traffic from the businesses going into Sacto. If you leave SLT around 4 you could end up in the mix at the peak so having a bite to eat in SLT and then beginning your drive around 5 might be a better idea. Sounds like you have plenty of time before the red eye. Also the daylight is really long now so you won%26#39;t be making your way around in the dark. Won%26#39;t be dark, dark till after 8 pm now. Was really watching the light last night to see what time the really dark dark set in and it wasn%26#39;t until after 8.

suzie-travels and StateRef, thank you very much for you quick responses.
