driving from las vegas to grand canyon

Hi planning our first trip to vegas in april and hoping to drive from vegas to the grand canyon would you recommend the west rim or south rim and how long do you think it would take to drive to both?

Thinking of booking TI or MGM which is the better option, would like a decent pool for relaxing!

The South Rim is actually in Grand Canyon Nat%26#39;l Park and is the preferred destination of almost everybody. The drive time is about 4 hours but most people stop at Hoover Dam - you%26#39;ll drive right over it en route.

The West Rim is on the Hualapai Indian reservation. I haven%26#39;t been there but the consensus seems to be that the views are not as spectacular. The main draw sof the West Rim are that its closer to Las Vegas and the upcoming ';Sky Walk.'; Although its supposed to open in a few days, I wouldn%26#39;t count on it. They%26#39;ve been delaying the opening for a couple of years. Check out this site for more info.

Check out the reviews for the hotels and ask the question in a separate post - you%26#39;ll get more responses.

Hi, the drive from the strip to South Rim. Grand canyon Ntl Park is 5 hours we have done it 2 times. Dont forget to fill up with gas drinks and snacks for the ride. We stayed at El Tovar the first time, and Bright Angel the second time. Awsome trip.

South Rim, it%26#39;s a 5 hour drive. If you stay overnight (recommended) the Canyon accomodations are most likely booked. Try Williams about an hour away or Tusayan just outside the park.
