Never been to Vegas would like a nice hotel reference.
Main things we would like to do:
1. See Grand Canyon - flying?
2. Other desert type attractions - driving?
3. Great Pool bar scenes
4. Star Trek experience
5. Good comedy or concerts.
Where can we drive to from Vegas and back in a day?
Any help appreciated!!!!

Flying seems to be the quickest way to see the canyon leaving you more time in Vegas. You can drive but it would appear to be about 5hrs each way.
Red rocks is within easy driving distance from the strip
Assuming you are of the younger generation the better pool bar scenes would probably be the Hard Rock, Mandalay Bay, Caesars, MGM, Flamingo, Mirage.
Depending on when your trip is check with various sites such as Vegas.com for a full list of concerts and shows. Some good headliners at MGM garden arena.
You could of course visit the Dam, there and back in half a day.
Hope this helps a little

hi, i can recommend caesars and the wynn for good pool/bar atmosphere ( ?? budget)
we drove to the grand canyon stopping off at hoover dam for an hour or so first and drove back same day, i wouldn%26#39;t recommend this it was too long would definately take one of the many helicopter trips next time!
concerts? i liked elton johns red piano at caesars but realise this isnt everyones cup of tea!!
happy trip planning!
Some of the places with vibrant pool scenes aren%26#39;t great choices for first time visitors as they tend to be not so centrally located.
For a reasonable balance of location and pool, I would look at MGM, or if you want to save a little more money, Flamingo. Mandalay Bay also has a very nice pool complex if you don%26#39;t mind being on the south end of the Strip.
Thank you, this is all great info. We are not real young, late 30%26#39;s. The helicopter to the Grand Canyon seems cool, but I would like to spend and hour or two there. I would really like to see Elton John and I checked and he%26#39;ll be there while we are, so thank you for that suggestion.
It seems like most stuff isn%26#39;t in walking distance of all hotels, so I wouldn%26#39;t mind not being on the strip if the hotel was really nice and the pool scene cool!! Sounds like a lot of fun.
Thanks again.
For a really great one day trip (or less)-Valley of Fire. It is about an hour from Vegas. The scenery is spectacular. It has stunning sandstone formations. You can drive from formation to formation but to really appreciate its beauty you should hike on some of the trails- some are short. Bring water and food (not available in the park) and you can have a picnic in its picnic area. You can spend as much or as little time as you want at VOF. To me this is a must see trip for anyone going to Vegas who wants to get off the strip for a while. You can combine it with a trip to Hoover Dam and Lake Mead-perhaps taking a paddleboat ride at Lake Mead.

A closer trip would be to Red Rock Canyon on the west side of town. It is less than 1/2 hour away. It has a 13 mile loop that you can drive that has pull out points so you can get out of the car. It also has some nice hiking trails. It is a favorite of rock climbers. It is a very nice trip but not nearly as great as VOF.
