Self Drive Valley of Fire,Red Rock Canyon and Hoover Dam

Self Drive Valley of Fire,Red Rock Canyon and Hoover Dam All In One Day............. Is this too much to take on?

We would really love to see the above sites, we are going to hire a car for a day but is this being too unrealistic?Would we be better off hiring the car for two days? We will be in Vegas in August. If you had any pointers or websites where i could find maps, distances what order to see them in anything that would help to organise this a bit better.

Thanks so much

Self Drive Valley of Fire,Red Rock Canyon and Hoover Dam

We did those 3 places in one day last November without a problem and was back in time to catch a late show, although 2 days would be more enjoyable. We have always rented convertibles when we go to Vegas. I highly recommend it and it is a blast to have for cruising on the strip at night.

These websites should get you started on some research. You can do all 3 in a day. I would start with Hoover Dam, go on to Valley of Fire and end with Red Rock, or keep the car one more day and do Red Rock the 2nd day and go to Red Rock Casino too. You will need to take drinks/food with you to Valley of Fire. I would buy a cheap cooler and pack it that morning for your day trip. You can always use it for your drinks in the room and then just leave it when you check out.

I would do Hoover Dam/Lake Mead/Valley of Fire as one trip. The scenery at VOF is simply breathtaking. The sandstone formations are fantastic. You can spend as little or as much time there as you want. You can just drive from formation to formation- getting out of the car to take a closer look. I usually suggest people take some of the hikes- but it is boiling hot in August. I have hiked there in July and August but you must be prepared- suntan lotion, hat, glasses and lots and lots and lots of water (none is available in the park). You can take the short hike to see the Indian wall writings- it is very short. Just wear closed shoes- the sand is very fine. To me this is a must see trip. You can also take a paddlewheel boat trip at Lake Mead-near Hoover Dam.

Once you have seen VOF, RRC will probably be a letdown. It isn%26#39;t nearly as big or as spectacular as VOF. It is a favorite of rock climbers. It does have the 13 mile loop with pull off points so you can get out of the car. It also has hiking trails. If time is short I would eliminate this trip rather than cutting anything from the Hoover Dam/Lake Mead/VAlley of Fire trip. It is closer to the strip- under 1/2 hour but it is not near the other sites. It is not as stunning.

I don%26#39;t see how you can do all 3 in one day- that would be a rush. I went to Red Rock- spent maybe half a day out there- of course we did some hiking in the trails so if you stop and hike- it would not be possible. If you just do the drive and stop quickly- maybe it%26#39;s possible.

Thank you Mrs Popeye (love the name), TeachRsue, vp03 and Clemson27 for all your help, comments and suggestions i really do appreciate it. If i have anymore questions i will be in contact.

Thank you once again

Take care

On your trip to VOF, take a picnic lunch and go to the Seven Sisters area. They have covered benches somewhat private among the boulders with a good view of the desert.

A good break during your travel.

Hi Everyone Again!!

Just wanted to ask your opinion on something! I have been thinking about what you all have said and am thinking maybe hire the car for two days and break it up a little, I also want to go the Fashion Outlet Las Vegas Store. So my question is in what order/time would be best to see the VOF,RRC,Fashion Outlet and the Hooover Dam? We also plan on going to see the Grand Cayon, fly up there, coach, helicopter, pontoon ride etc

Is this too much to do as we want to see quite alot on the strip and take in a couple of shows.

August 24th to 28th full days

Sept 2nd to 5th full days

3 half days also

Any help will once again be greatly appreciated thank you so much.

I believe the outlet is on the strip; therefore you won%26#39;t need the car for that.

hi folks, make sure you do the vof, beautiful. one more thing, don;t try to plan too much, we have been in vegas many times and too much planning never seems to be the best idea !!!! just have fun !!!!
