Reading a previous post I just realised that the US has diferent voltage to the UK.
We were packing our little travel kettle for that all important cup of tea on demand. Now I wonder if it won%26#39;t work in the US. Can any seasoned travellers advise please. We%26#39;ve only been to europe in the past.
Thanks
Betty

Yeah, its different but you can buy an adapter. I don%26#39;t know how much they cost so I don%26#39;t know if its worth it.
us voltage
betty,
You will need a 240 (UK) to 110 (US) convertor. Most travel shops, luggage shops, should have these. Probably around $15-20 US.
Us uses 110 Volts.
True you can buy and use an adapter, but is probably more expensive than a cheap electric kettle, bought from US.
My advise is, once in Vegas find the nearest drug store such as Wallgreen, Rite Aid and buy the cheapest electric kettle that you can find. They are probably around $15
Sometimes we overlook the obvious. Good answer - musicmano.
Betty, some hotels have in-room coffee-pots, maybe you could use this for hot-water?
Also, see if they have hair-driers in the rooms (if this was another concern). Clothes irons/ironing-boards can be requested as well.
The correct answer is the UK uses 240 @ 50-Hz and the US uses 120 @ 60-Hz. AC motors designed for 50-Hz do not work very good at 60-Hz
they also don%26#39;t work without a convertor because the prongs are different.
Check your travel kettle to see if it%26#39;s dual voltage, ie does it have a switch to change it from 240v to 110v? Most modern travel kettles do. One of our does, but the other doesn%26#39;t. If it does then you%26#39;re all set.
However, remember to switch it back to 240v before leaving the US otherwise, if you next use it in a country which has 220-240v then it will blow.
check with your hotel if they provide in room coffee maker, that way you can boil water in your room without buying anything extra. Worst case scenario buy a converter this will come in handy if you visit North America again
Hi
I have a Hayden kettle that is dual volt there is a small switch you turn with a coin or screwdriver. I got this kettle in Woolworth%26#39;s for a tenner and you can get the adaptor plugs in most cheap shops for about 99p. So for about 拢11 problem solved.
Clive
As the kettle only uses heat and no motor it will work but take longer to boil.
Buy a dual voltage kettle,or as suggested buy one there and leave it behind you.
