Why is JOB such a popular VP game??

I have been doing searches on this site on VP. I%26#39;ve been practicing and am ready to try it when I go to Vegas in 9 days.

I seem to keep coming across posts about Jacks or Better and am wondering why this particular game is so popular. One poster wrote that it is ';less volatile';. Does this mean that it is simply easier than the other types of VP games?

This is the game I have been practicing, by the way.

VP gurus... please explain! Thanks!

Why is JOB such a popular VP game??

it%26#39;s easy to learn, the strategy rules are pretty straightforward, and people are familiar with it. i prefer deuces wild, personally. i think it%26#39;s more fun.

Ditto on what Chrispina said. I am a deuces wild fan myself, I think its more fun. Never had luck on JOB, but I know some who love it. TO each their own!

JoB is easiest to become an %26#39;expert%26#39; on in the beginning. I generally play Double Double Bonus - cause I like the nice payout for certain hands. However, if I%26#39;m not doing well, I will sometime switch to JoB for a few hands - JoB pays 2 for two pair, where many games only pay even.

I play VP - A LOT. I have never gotten into Deuces Wild because truthfully I cannot figure out the best strategy. Many machines will offer a variety of VP games. Find one that you can switch back and forth on (by going to %26#39;menu%26#39; on the screen) See what you like best and what is working best for you.

Have fun and Good Luck!

I have actually practiced Deuces Wild also. I liked it too. It seems pretty straight forward and even as a beginner, I feel like I know what to hold when a Wild appears. It doesn%26#39;t seem that complicated.

Am I simplifiying this? I did read one post a while back by an experienced VP player who wrote that he never knows what to hold on this game.

Is there a different strategy b/t JOB and DW??

Thanks.

Hey Loveland,

Refer to my post above.

I think it was one of your posts that I was referring to regarding the DW game.

Overall, I guess what I am confused about is that ultimately one is trying to land hands such as RF, SF, FH, etc, etc, etc on any VP games one chooses to play. (I know some do not pay for 2 pair)

Since on any game you are trying to get the same basic hands, how can the strategy be so incredibly different. Excuse my ignorance, please!!

I think I haven%26#39;t spent enough time %26#39;studying it%26#39;. I like to play like I know what I%26#39;m doing (sometimes a little too fast)...so maybe because the other games are more familiar to me, I%26#39;m just more comfortable and I don%26#39;t have to %26#39;think%26#39;.

strategy often depends on the pay tables. i know that if you have a full pay deuces while machine vs. a ';not so ugly ducks'; machine, there are some different plays. i think you are supposed to hold for a a straight with one and a flush with the other? i forget the details. you can get strategy cards that will show you the pay tables to look for and the strategy to play.

i bought this book:

amazon.com/Video-Poker-Edge-Smart-Right/dp/0…

it has some strategy cards that you can tear out and bring in for some of the better paying versions of the game (full pay DW, NSUD, double bonus, JOB, double double bonus). i found them very easy to use. with those cards and a list of the casinos where the games can be found from http://members.cox.net/vpfree/LV.htm, i was all set!

it is the least volatile and easy to leran and the building block for many other games.

the low volatility makes it popular with players who will never reach the ';long term';. if you going to LV for a few days it is the game that will take your money slower.

order strategy cards for your fav game from www.lasvegasadvisor.com i prefer bob dancer%26#39;s for readabil;ity and ease of use. jean scott%26#39;s are too big - both are good.
