Trip Report 3/18 - 2/21 MGM

This should be good!! Plus I%26#39;m headed to MGM on the 29th so I%26#39;m very interested in hearing this. Lol

I%26#39;ll start the drum roll...

OMG this is WAY .......TOOO funny!!! iam ROFLMAO......

where the heck did pennyplayer go? To another casino?

This was our second trip to Vegas this year. We started in Phoenix and spent a few days there beforehand.

Flights: AirTran - from BMI in IL to Phoenix - 3 hour layover in Atlanta, SW from Phoenix to Las Vegas - extremely busy, we almost missed our flight and we arrived 1.5 hours in advance. Only one piece of luggage made it to Vegas, even though we checked them both in curbside. The mysteries of air travel I guess. The SW desk told us the missing luggage was confirmed on the next flight, which was due in 45 minutes, so we waited at the airport, and it did come in. Flight back via Airtran with another long layover in Atlanta.

Hotel: First time staying at MGM. We usually stay at the other end of the trip, Harrahs, TI, etc. So, this was a little different. We had a room in the tower and it was large, well appointed. It was a long walk to the elevated, but not too bad.

Other Transportation: We usually rent a car, but since this was a quick trip, we decided to cab it. Cost was 10.25 before tip on the way there, and 8.45 before tip on the way to the airport. We also bought a 10 ride pass on the monorail and we used all ten rides between the two of us. Cab from Sahara to DT 9.50 before tip, from DT to MGM 20.25 before tip.

DH had a conference in Phoenix, where my sister lives, so of course, I was coming with him and spending some quality sister time. We decided to tag on a three day trip to Las Vegas. Left Phoenix on Sunday to Las Vegas and arrived around 10 am. I did airport check in and received a tower room with a sliver view of the fountains of B and strip. Since we couldn%26#39;t get into the room we checked bags and spent a few hours at NYNY. So, armed with enough players cards to make a blue hair jealous we hit the strip. DH had the best hit of the trip at NYNY - $110 on a penny 75 line quick hit machine. Yes, our gaming was that bad this trip. We had tickets to Phantom at 5:00 pm, so we called and were able to check into the room around 3 pm, freshened up, and took the monorail to Harrahs. We played at Ventetian for a little while before the show. Signed up for the player%26#39;s card there. I saw a promo for $15 free play. They told me that deal was only good if you signed up on line - WTH??

We went to the show and enjoyed it, but the theater was only about 2/3rd full. The music was fine, but the character development a little weak as some have mentioned. We both preferred Ka, which we saw in January. I thought Phantom could have done more with that giant chandelier. The initiating segment was great, but not much more after that. But still a pretty good show.

After that we ate at Luxe Cafe in Venetian - one of my favorites. We opted for the appetizer special and skipped entrees. This was more than enough for the two of us. We spent the rest of the night playing slots at Venetian (down) Casino Royale (up) and Harrahs (down). It was getting late so we hit the monorail back to MGM and crashed out for the night.

Next day we were up around 8 am. Grabbed some coffee at Starbucks and hopped the monorail to Sahara. We liked playing there, but I%26#39;m not so sure I%26#39;d enjoy staying there. Just a little run down. We grabbed a cab from Sahara to DT. We like DT and have stayed there a few times.

Since we have no illusions about the slot play on the strip, we jumped out of the cab enthusiastic that our road to riches lie in the hot slot machines downtown. This was not to be. We played just about everywhere under the canopy. I left up a couple of times, but overall not good. There were plenty of $5 tables here.

We cabbed back to MGM and decided to spend the rest of the night playing the south end of the strip. Now, I was sadly dissappointed at this point. My favorite spinny game (instant hit or something like that) at Vegas club DT was gone. Which I attributed to my losing streak in that neighborhood, but I rallied on. We took the tram to MB, and what do my eye behold on entering the casino - can it be?? Yes, it is!! A 50 line 25 cent 50 lions machine!!! The holy grail to me. OK, we saw this game at CR the night before, but it was a 50 cent machine. The ones we saw at MB were standard issue 25 cent machines and proceeded to win on them. Yes! My search was not in vain. We played them for quite a while, both of us up when we left. Then on to Luxor an Excalibur. I really like MB, but my only complaint is that we never saw a cocktail waitress the entire time.

Hit the hay at MGM a few hours later for some much needed shuteye. Up the next day around 9 am....how can it be our last day?!! So much to see and do. We started with coffee again at Starbucks then on to Monte Carlo (up) Bellagio (down) Caesars (down) Mirage (down), then over to Harrah%26#39;s. I hit $75 on a penny machine which stemmed the flow of $$ for a short while. We hit IP, when the losing continued and decided to break for dinner. Off we went on the Monorail to Paris, where we snagged a patio table at MAG and had a very relaxing dinner. We played at Paris, no luck, but great cocktail service. Then to Ballys - again, not doing well,so moved on quickly.

We stopped by the new Bill%26#39;s. It was still in transition, the bank of WOF in the back were gone, looked like they had taken out quite a few slots and we didn%26#39;t stay long. Next stop was Flamingo and it was jam packed. In fact, we noticed the entire strip was pretty busy. Must be spring break.

Since we couldn%26#39;t find a machine to play at Flamingo, we decided to monorail it back to MGM. We walked over to Hooters, which was very quiet, and had excellent drink service. We both did OK here, and we moved on to Tropicana. It just smells old in Tropicana. Can%26#39;t put my finger on it, but it just smelled old. Back to MGM we gambled on nickel and penny machines until about 1 am. Since we had an early flight we called it quits. But we had good cocktail service here as well, so we were pretty lit by the time we got to bed. Up at 5:30 am and back home by 5:30 pm.

A few notes:

- Overall, good cocktail service except at MB, NYNY, Bellagio and Mirage.

- DT was not as good to us as it usually is, but we sitll love it

- MGM was nice, but walls were thin...we heard about every conversation our neighbors had, and I%26#39;m pretty sure they weren%26#39;t shouting

- 3 days was too short for us. The tirp felt rushed. Particularly the the last day.

- I like having one or two good meals. Ate at Wolfgang Pucks at MGM and MAG - both nice.

- Liked seeing new games around - at Harrah%26#39;s mostly, played pennies, nickels, quarter and dollars and never really hit anything. No table games this trip....should really do more of those

- Plenty of $5 tables during the day, but it went up to $10 and $15 at night almost everywhere.

Alright....I only had two, but they were really big Margueritas, and I actually read my very long post for typos before posting.....something I should do more often......
