I'm back! Tips and Thoughts

Just got back from the Wynn. Beautiful resort. Our luggage got delayed until the following morning. Was planning on buying a shirt downstairs at one of the Wynn shops (Chanel, Dior, etc.) but one shirt was $1100, and some others were about $400-450, so I wore what I flew in. :)

TIP: Right across the street from the Wynn is the Fashion Show Mall. Awesome mall! Tons of stores and a food court for cheap food.

The staff at the Wynn are fabulous and so friendly and professional. Except for Fran, the bartender at the pool. I found a piece of glass in my frozen drink and when I complained to him, he told me I had to go find my cocktail waitress in order to get a free drink. Um, what? I am paying thousands per day here and I care about getting a free drink? lol I%26#39;m concerned about one of your customers getting cut and suing you, silly! We ended up filing a report with security and spoke with mgmt. We did not ask for anything free, as this is not what it%26#39;s about.

TIP: rent a car! I saw so many people standing in long line at the taxi stands. Quicker to get your car from valet parking. Although, one bad thing. We tried to go to the Rio hotel one night, but the valet was full, except for hotel guests. And make sure you know where Industrial Drive is which runs parallel to Las Vegas Blvd. The traffic on the Strip is crazy. Quicker to take Industrial if you%26#39;re in a hurry to catch a show.

TIP: Make time for the Fremont Street Experience. The Strip is sooo spread out; makes it difficult to see everything and to get around. In comparison, downtown is great. We went on a Sunday night and there were live bands, lots of people, casinos within walking distance of each other and that fabulousoverhead light show/display!

I think at some of the larger casinos, they must pipe in some air that smells good. All of their casinos smelled good; unlike some of the older casinos downtown that smelled like smoke.

We ate at Alex one night at the Wynn for my birthday. Very elegant and food was good. Also ate at the Wynn buffet for breakfast one day. Really good, but bring your appetite!! Room service was also quite good.

I didn%26#39;t care much for the Red Rock Canyon drive. Maybe because we didn%26#39;t stop? Just drove through? Everything is so brown and dry....but hey, to each his own.

Saw three shows: Jubilee!, Zumanity and O. I had read a lot of mixed reviews on Zumanity, but I really enjoyed it. Yes, it%26#39;s VERY risque, but it was also funny and I laughed out loud. I enjoyed O, but I think Mystere was better...but maybe because Mystere was the very first CDS that I had seen years ago.

All in all a good trip. We did not want to come home!

I'm back! Tips and Thoughts

Thanks for sharing your tips and thoughts.

Too bad your luggage didn%26#39;t end up with you. Sometimes I think my luggage gets around more than I do!!

Can%26#39;t believe you found a piece of glass in your cocktail. Do you think the bartender didn%26#39;t believe you? What a jerk he was.

Glad you had a good time anyway and welcome back.

I'm back! Tips and Thoughts

Glad to hear you had such a good time. We%26#39;re planning on staying at the Wynn in early April, so I have a couple of questions. Did you stay in the resort side, or one of the tower suites? Any suggestions for agust staying there? For instance, did you use the famous $20 tip? What view did you have?

As to renting a car, I%26#39;ve been debating it for awhile. We%26#39;re going Wed. and checking out Friday, so will not be there on the weekend. Do you still think renting a car is a good idea? We have no plans to go downtown - this is our first trip to LV. How is the car rental set up in LV at the airport? Do you have to take shuttle to the car? Was this time consuming to do?

Any other suggestions from someone who just got back are welcome. Thanks!

Natmom -

we had a panoramic view room with a view of the strip, floor 52. We could see the waterfall below us. I was hoping my boyfriend would have tried to get a free upgrade, but he did not. He said they offered an upgrade for an extra $300 per night, which he declined :) I did not hear any construction, although I had heard on TA that was a problem.

We did take a shuttle to Budget rental, but it wasn%26#39;t bad, right next to the airport. If you have some comfy walking shoes, you can walk to some places and forego the rental car. I wouldn%26#39;t want to walk on those sidewalks if it%26#39;s really hot. It was hot when we were there in March!

Valet parking at all the casinos is free, by the way. You%26#39;ll pay a couple bucks tip when they retrieve your car. I guess you have to weigh the cost of a rental car against cab fare.

I%26#39;m kinda lazy, can you tell?? lol

Good luck!

i think your tips are great for some people and not for others - once again reinforcing the ';something for everyone'; and ';personal choice'; thoughts

TIP: fashion show mall is just OK, nothing special

TIP: never rent a car, use taxi or limo - traffic, full valet not worth it

TIP: never go downtown, it%26#39;s awful

We all have different tastes, what we consider ';tips'; that work for us may not work for others Opinions are varied, what I love aboiut travel. No one way to visit LV (or anywhere else)

I love Wynn and stay often - how in the world are you ';paying thousands per day';?

Compared to what we have in Louisiana, Fashion Show Mall is Rodeo Drive. You have to understand where we are from? And yes, we end our sentences with prepositions. (Laughs at self).

I have to agree with getting a rental car if you are there more than a few days. I have never run into a full valet but I%26#39;m sure it happens.

Hated O. I thought the flood scene where the clowns come out of the roof was in poor taste, considering our recent unfortunate situation here in Louisiana. Been there done that, literally.

I love Freemont. It reminds me of old LV which is rapidly disappearing.

Glad you had fun alikat. I%26#39;ll be there after Easter. You mentioned it was hot. I%26#39;ll have to remember to check the forecast. You just never know in the Spring. BTW, who lost your luggage?

I agree with you about Fremont Street. Two of my best Las Vegas trips were spent downtown (stayed at the Golden Nugget). I stayed in July %26amp; August and the heat didn%26#39;t bother me at all while I was downtown under the canopy. With all the casinos that had their doors open it almost felt like it was air conditioned. We walked up and down the street so many times each day that I actually lost a few pounds in spite of the drinks %26amp; rich food! Thanks for the trip report. Glad you had a good time.

The good smell thing...I was at the Belagio and there was a lady running the sweeper and the smell was real strong, so we asked her about it and it is in their sweeper.

Hi, We always rent a car after our first trip. You learn how to go behind the strip. we selft park or valet.

How was Jubilee? Husband would like to see that and do the behind tour.

ha Gumbeaux, I thought the same thing about %26#39;O%26#39; and the house floating in the water. Seen enough of dat! lol

Pattie - I think I enjoyed Jubilee more than my boyfriend did. I thought it was a somewhat cheesy, old-time Vegas show, which is what I was looking for, but the cast really appeared they were enjoying themselves (faked it well!) which made it more enjoyable. Ran a little long for me. I think if you%26#39;ve never seen a production such as that, you should do it once.

Thanks Alikat
