Heading out Easter weekend.
For many years, Stardust Hotel was home base for my friends and me. After Stardust announced the closing, I moved home base to MGM Grand.
Normally I get fully comped but didn%26#39;t gamble that much high dollar action my last trip, so MGM didn%26#39;t offer me a very good deal.
Called the Mirage and they offered me casino rate. Tax included, will run about $440 for 3 nights. Have been excited about being back at center strip since Stardust was on the North side and MGM is on the South side. I actually like Mirage better than MGM, but Mirage is usually much more expensive.
Here%26#39;s the dilemma. Just received an offer from the Luxor for 2 free nights (plus $50 airfare on future trip, $30 slot play, etc). Of course Luxor is back on the South end. Third night will probably run less than $100. So we%26#39;re talking about $440 vs. $100 split between two people. So for me - $220 vs. $50.
I really LOVE the Mirage. I like Luxor but never stayed there. Money is not really an object, but of course the $170 savings per person could go a long way towards meals, booze, etc. (who am I kidding, it would go to the blackjack table!!!).
Again, I love the Mirage and really like the MGM but a little dicey on the Luxor, primarily due to it being even further south than MGM.
For those of you that have stayed both places, what would you do under the circumstances?

Hotel Dilemma - Mirage vs. LuxorI%26#39;m sure you can find a good way to spend the $170 rather than giving it to the hotel. Since you sound like you go somewhat regularly, my advice to you is to this time try the Luxor. You like it, and now%26#39;s your chance to see how a different hotel is, one that you%26#39;ve never stayed in. You never know, you might realize some benefits to staying at that end of the strip that you didn%26#39;t know of before.
Center Strip truly isn%26#39;t that far from you, anyway. If you really want to get to and from center strip from the Luxor, you have the Deuce, or you can take the free monorail up to Excalibur and then walk (I know, not a great option, but an option), or worse case you take a cab and it%26#39;s a short cab ride (even with traffic) that shouldn%26#39;t cost more than $10.
Try the Luxor, try something different - you never, never know, you might like it more than you think.
Hotel Dilemma - Mirage vs. LuxorLast time I stayed at Luxor, (3 years ago) the room was a bit rundown, didnt care much for the casino but was an ok hotel overall. As for the Mirage, awesome, the pool is great, the rooms were great, large and very luxurius. If money is not a concern stay at the Mirage, dont even think twice about it.
I agree IF money is not a concern, stay at The Mirage.
If it is, then go with Luxor.

The luxor has sent you a great offer, however I have never had any luck in that casino, the whole set up just did`nt work for me so if casino is really important I would go with the Mirage, better location and better casino not to mention food at the Luxor is not so hot.
It%26#39;s a nice ';problem'; to have. The Mirage is my favorite hotel. However, I like to stay in places that put me up for free! I just checked and the house bj rules are the same at both places.
It doesn%26#39;t sound like $170 should be that big a deal for you so you should go with your heart and stay at The Mirage.
You%26#39;ll be happier and save time and money getting around the strip.
Stay at Luxor for the $50, then plan an extra trip and stay at Mirage.
I got the same offer and I would probably take it but it the date range is a few days short of my stay. Figures.
Luxor, despite the complaints from a lot here, has always been good to me. Instead of what it isn%26#39;t look at what it IS. A decent place to gamble, mid-range Vegas standard rooms, with easy access to other properties ( I especially like the walkway to MB).
170 can certainly help towards other things.
I%26#39;ve heard nothing but bad things from people that have stayed at The Luxor.
You won%26#39;t hear bad things from me about either place. I think gambling luck plays a role in your opinion of a place-lose and you have a bad impression of the place, even if your room has nothing to do with casino luck.
I%26#39;ve stayed at the Luxor 3 times and the MIrage 6 times. The tower rooms at the Luxor are quite decent. The rooms at the Mirage are also nice but although it doesn%26#39;t bother me, for some reason people gripe about the size of the bathroom at the Mirage.
Coming from another country I love to shop in the American department stores like Neiman-Marcus and Macys so I prefer the Mirage for its location to the stores in Caesar%26#39;s Forum shops and the Fashion Mall. However I don%26#39;t think shopping is at the top of your to do list in Vegas. I don%26#39;t rent a car and it does take longer to get places from the Luxor but you know that already from staying at the MGM.
Depends on you. You might like to stay at the Mirage so you can tell in future whether the central location is worth the extra bucks.
What about the other person you%26#39;re going with? Do they have any preference?
