excalibur in may

I am taking my sister to Vegas for her 40th birthday, am a bit concerned about all the negative reports about the excalibur, unfortunately have now noticed that the hotel is under refurbishment. Does anyone think it will be worth changing hotel, or put up with any disruption.

One other question, does anyone have any ideas on where to go and what things to see when we are there (10 days, first time in Vegas for us all)

Any comments apprecitated

Excalibur is in a good location for going to MGM, NYNY etc.

For all the time you will be in your room, there probably isn%26#39;t any point in changing.

For things to do, you should consider, a helicopter trip to Grand Canyon, book a couple of shows at night and even a Lake Mead trip.

Thanks, have thought about the grand canyon trip, but think it may be a bit expensive for the four of us.

We are going to see Celine on 18th May, American Superstars is a maybe too.

Wondering where would be the best place to eat cheaply, such as buffets.

buffets can be quite expensive or else you are really going to make the most of them and eat a lot. Try places like magarataville, California Pizza Kitchen in Mirage, also restaurants in hotels such as imperial palace aren%26#39;t as expensive.

Excalibur%26#39;s casino is a lot of fun. We have been to Vegas 3 years in a road and always make it a point to go the Casino at Excalibur

3 years in a row

Thanks again, will put these on the list to try.

As it is a surprise for her birthday, want to plan a few things in advance, oh my its been hard trying to keep it a secret for the last four months.

I think the Excalibur looks really fun, my better half thinks it%26#39;ll be like disneyland. Still hope the rooms are better than they seem to be on the review site. Would be useful to see the photos of the new upgraded rooms.

gyork,

Another poster recently was pleased with the upgraded room at the Excalibur.

While some people may like the Excalibur, I%26#39;m one that doesn%26#39;t care for it. Too many kids when I%26#39;ve been in there. I did like the Dinner show they have there.

First time in Vegas their are SO many better places to stay, depending on what you want to spend.

And for a first timer, you might get a better experience at center strip.

Here%26#39;s a map of the strip. Gives you a better look at where the hotels are.

If you don%26#39;t want to pay for the upper crest of hotels like Wynn, Bellagio, Venetian, The Hotel, or The Signature, maybe try MGM, Paris, Mirage, TI, MC, or others.

First time in Vegas, 10 days is great! You%26#39;ll want to spend lots of time walking through all the different Casinos and taking them all in.

Bellagio fountains, Secret gardens and Volcano at Mirage. Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. Shopping at the Forum Shops and Canal Shops. (Ceasars and Venetian0

Here%26#39;s a website to check out for attractions, shows and much more:

vegas.com/attractions/freeattractions.html

Wear comfortable shoes, it%26#39;s a lot of walking in Vegas.

Have a GREAT time on your first visit to Vegas!

personally, I would change. The Excal has seen better days - many years ago.

This is a special occassion and a nice trip - if you can make it work, be concerned about the reviews and stay in a nicer property.

We have stayed at Excaliber twice, although it has been a few years ago. I was also worried after reading some of the reviews, but the rooms were fine. Not fancy, but fine. Both times we stayed there, our rooms were clean.

Yes, there are lots of kiddies running around the property, but that didn%26#39;t bother me. Lots to see and do on that end of the Strip. Go explore Mandalay Bay (Shark Reef is cool), Luxor (King Tut exhibit is cheesy but kind of fun), MGM (love the lion habitat, which is free), NY NY (Manhattan Express roller coaster and a big arcade). Don%26#39;t miss the Krispy Kreme doughnut ';factory'; upstairs in the Ex ~ by the food court. You can watch the doughnuts get made, and they are absolutely WONDERFUL when hot out of the oven like that!

The dinner show at the Ex, called Tournament of Kings is really entertaining. Not cheap, it%26#39;s about $60 per person, and the food is ok but not fabulous, but the show itself is very well done and fun. I think you can get the tickets at the half-price booths for that show sometimes (get them the day of the show).

Be sure to take in the standards ~ Bellagio fountains, Mirage volcano, TI Sirens is not nearly as good as the old pirate battle, but worth seeing once if you%26#39;re a first-timer. (All free)

The indoor shopping venues in Ceaser%26#39;s Palace, Aladdin and Venetian are really cool even if you don%26#39;t want to shop ~ Venetian has the canal with gondola rides.

Go down to Fremont Street one night to take in the light show on the big canopy that stretches over the whole street. Usually live bands and stuff down there, which are fun.

Enjoy!
