I am schedule to stay at the Orleans March 31-April 5. I was looking over the reservation confirmation they sent me and saw they will be placing a ';hold'; against my credit card for an additional $50 a night for each night I stay. That means $250 that I won%26#39;t be able to use to gamble and such. I called and asked them when this went into place since my previous two visits to Vegas (Stardust/Westward HO) didn%26#39;t charge me this security fee. I know that I will get the money back upon check out and no damage or charges to the room, but I find this to be a little outragous. Do all the vegas hotels now charge this ';security'; fee? How can you find out pre booking if they do or don%26#39;t?
Do all hotels charge nightly security fees?
Just take 250 out of your bank account and bring it with you to Vegas as cash. this doesn%26#39;t answer your question, but its a suggestion for a work-around to your problem.
Regards.
Do all hotels charge nightly security fees?
Not real sure how that solves my problem? I have a semi limited budget, and to put out $250 just so the hotel can ';hold'; it means doing less, heck that is money that I could gamble away, instead it goes unused. I could see maybe $100 hold total put against your card, but $50 a night sounds high. I have traveled all over this country and EVEN Disney doesn%26#39;t have a security hold policy.
if the hold is against your credit card, I would assume that when you check out, the $ is removed as a charge, so you would not have it added to your bill.
I have had hotels do this when I use my debit/credit card, rather than a real credit card. I%26#39;ve also had rental car companies do this.
They do this at Carribean destinations during Spring break sometimes. Thats so people don%26#39;t trash rooms while being drunk
and just leave.
Its surprising to see this in a city like Vegas though. Maybe the specific hotel has had problems with patrons vandalizing rooms. I%26#39;m booked at the IP and their invoice doesn%26#39;t mention anything about an additional security charge.
Call you credit company, and tell them your situation, and ask for a $500 increase on your limit.
If that is not possible, and you know that you are planning on charging things onto your credit card, deposit an extra $250, that will increase your limit as well.
i have never had this happen to me , but i have had the energy charge added or something having to do with energy i think and i think it was just 7 bucks...
hmmmm
bella
The policy varies by hotel and often times, the person who checks you in. It happens a little more in Vegas than other cities because you%26#39;re allowed to charge items to your room.
You could try telling the desk clerk you won%26#39;t be charging anything to your room and see if they will reduce or eliminate the security fee. Alternatively, you could change your reservation to a hotel that doesn%26#39;t have this policy. Of the places I%26#39;ve stayed at in the recent past, the Monte Carlo and the Sahara didn%26#39;t charge the fee. Hooter%26#39;s charged just $75 for the whole stay.
MGM Props and Harrahs also hold money on card. This is not just Vegas but most hotels. I believe that MGM Props and Harrahs hold $100 per night. This is not just for damage but anything you may charge to your room. I have worked in a hotel and we held money too.
google ';credit card incidentals'; or ';holds on credit cards';. this is quite common for car rentals, hotels to name just two examples. For some it goes unnoticed, but those with lower limits, or close to the max, it can tie up funds and be a problem.
