Chair Hogs

The Today Show just had a segment re: people reserving chairs/lounges at the pool...Big no, no...The bottom line was, if your not sitting in it, it isn%26#39;t yours...

Chair Hogs

that%26#39;s how i feel about it. if some jerk leaves a towel on a chair and is nowhere to be found for 15+ minutes, i%26#39;m taking the chair AND the towel! there would be plenty of chairs to go around if people only claimed them while they were actually using them.

Chair Hogs

We were at Monte Carlo a while back, and had a very long night that went into the morning, about 7:30 am...went to the room and changed into our suits so we could sleep by the pool which opened at 8 am. There was the line of early (read: sober) risers that were waiting to be the first to get to the best chairs. One woman proceeded to save 10 (yes, 10) chairs for her ';friends who were on their way down';. Of course they were all right in front of the pool, prime pool real estate. Seeing as we were there and in a not so great state of mind, we just moved her towels and sat where we wanted. She got all huffy and in our face, we told her basically that you couldnt save that many chairs, and since we were there and her friends werent, that we were going to sit where we wanted. She called security on us..who agreed w/ us to her dismay. 9, 10, 11 oclock rolls around, none of her friends show, which just added fuel to our fire and we occasionally let her know what a dork she was...a. for saving the spots, b. for calling security on us and c. that none of her friends showed anyway. Immature, yes, but seemed like a good idea after a night of partying and lack of sleep. Was entertainment for us! I can see saving one chair for a sig other, but any more than that is rude and selfish. If the people arent there to get the spot themselves, too bad.

Queen, I would have done the same thing. I would have a lot of fun reminding her too.

To avoid confrontation with other guests I just ask the pool staff to remove items from unoccupied chairs. I%26#39;ve never had any employees refuse to do this for me. The aggravated patrons (if they ever show up) can take it with management if they don%26#39;t like it.

to avoid confrontation with other guests, i bring my 6%26#39;4, 285# husband to the pool with me. ;) for some reason, nobody bothers us when we are out together!

I agree that this is rude of people. I could see saving one chair for your spouse maybe (incase you%26#39;ve sent him for food/drink) but that is it!

If anyone here goes on cruises, you know that this is one of the HUGE issues that is discussed on various cruise web sites. We%26#39;ve done 9 cruises, another one scheduled next year, and here%26#39;s how we handle it. If there are ';saved'; chairs and we see no one there for a half hour or so, we%26#39;ll place the towel or book or whatever NEATLY on the deck then.......move the chair a little distance away. If the person comes back (unlikely - or if they do its hours later), they cannot identify which chair was ';theirs'; and this avoids confrontations. I can certainly understand if someone gets up for a half hour or even more and goes in the pool or to get a drink or whatever, but people who lay out a bunch of towels at 7 in the morning and expect they can go back to the room, take a shower, have a leisurely breakfast, maybe feed a few slots and then have their reserved chair waiting for them in the late morning are in for surprise. Never feel badly about defeating a chair hog.

Gamblingqueen,

I agree with you completely! I would have done the same thing. Saving a chair for your partner is fine, but 10 chairs? Maybe SHE was the one who wasn%26#39;t in such a great state of mind! Why do people have to be so greedy? I hate that.

WOW, Im not the only one who enjoys himself at the pool.

Bravo to all .......

I agree Chair Hogs suck. I do think that it could get out of hand the removal of towels anb belongings from a chair you want, though. I think it is fair for a person to leave their chair to use the restroom, grab a beverage or take a bit of a dip in the pool to cool off without having to return to no chair.
