Trip Report- Aladdin/Planet Hollwood March 6-10

Went to Las Vegas for a quick trip- from Minneapolis, my husband%26#39;s 1st trip, my 5th. Thought I would post a quick report on our trip.... I know I searched all over for trip reports for info. before our trip....

This is long, because, well, that is how I write. Hope it can be of help!

March 6-

Arrived at the hotel at about 12:30 p.m. and were pleasently surprised to find that a room was ready for us. The lobby of the hotel was amazing and the customer service at the reception was great! Our hotel room was nice. As I have read, the bathrooms are the best part of the room- huge w/tub and seperate shower. Very nice. The room itself was nice and clean and had a good view of the strip. We walked to New York New York to look around and then ate in the food court area there. Had a slice of pizza for me and a burger and fries for hubby- both were good and everything including drink was under $20 . Left New York and walked over to MGM, where we peeked in on the lions. I would not make a special trip to see the lions, but we were in the area so thought we would check it out. The lions were actually being fed and played with by the trainers and it was interesting enough. Dropped in at M%26amp;M world and thought it was really not a big deal.... and wandered back to the hotel. The outside of the hotel is still under a lot of construction. The dessert passage motif is being changed into a sleeker look- red, black and white. There are two enterances to get to the hotel and both of them you have to walk through the mall to actually get into the hotel. It is fairly easy to navigate and really not much of an inconvenience at all.

That evening, we wandered over to Bally%26#39;s where we took the shuttle to the Rio. My hubby wanted to bet on the MInnesota Timberwolves at the sports book and we hung out there and watched the game, which proved to be very exciting as they beat the Lakers in double overtime. Thought the sports book was nice enough. Went and saw the parade in the sky show, which is entertaining and most important, free. Had plans to go to the Voodoo Lounge before 8 p.m. but the game ended late and we did not want to pay the $20 cover fee so we hung out in the casino, gambled and drank a bit. Cocktail waitressess were great- we made sure to tip a buck or two after she brought each our drinks, and they always came back to refill just as we were finishing. Before leaving we ate at the World Buffet. My husband loves to eat and I thought this would be a good choice as it has so much to eat, and we enjoyed it. The food was not awesome, but was not bad either. We stuffed ourselves!

March 7-

Woke up to a slightly rainy, cloudy day. Gambled for a bit in the Alladin casino. Joined the players club and each got 10 dollars as well as a chance to pull the large slot they have for 2 million dollars. The casino is redone and is very classy. They were adding more machines constantly Went down to the Spice Market Buffet. We got there right at 11 so we could do the Lunch. The food was AWESOME. Loved every thing we tried. Spent most of the day walking around- went to the Car Show at the Imperial Palace. Got the free passess and walked around. Thought it was interesting. It is a great activity to do when the weather is bad- it is inside, free and has some neat cars. Went back and got ready to go out for the night- walked to Harrah%26#39;s and played a bit and then to the Venetian. Walked around the canal shoppes for a bit. Join the players club and each got 10 free play, so we played a while and then went and had appetizers at the Grand Lux Cafe. Great food! the appetizers are huge, so we ordered two and split them, it was the perfect size meal. Wandered to Treasure Island to see the Pirate show. Thought this one was better than before and my husband actually loved it. We then went to the 9:30 Cirque show Mystere. It was so amazing. I have been before and loved it even more this time. We ordered tickets off the TI website and got them for $66, we chose the cheapest seats because I heard that there is not a bad seat in the house. Our seats were great. I would recommend this show a million times over. On the way home we went to a Piano Bar in Paris (don%26#39;t remember the name) and the dueling pianos were fun and entertaining.

March 8-

warm and sunny! We used the pool at the Westin- Aladdin has made a deal with them until there pool is up and running. It is closed for the season and for construction. On the way to the Westin we stopped and went to the buffet at Bally%26#39;s. It was a much smaller buffet but the food was okay. In the afternoon we got ready and then went downtown to Freemont Street. We took a taxi because honestly after seeing how crowded the Deuce was, we did not want to get on it. We had a lot of fun gambling downtown and bought silly souvenirs. We joined the players club at Four Queens and got some free cards. We won a bit at the Four Queens on slots. Watched the light show a few times and did some people watching before we headed back to the strip. Walked around a bit- went to the Flamingo and gambled. Drink ladies were very good here also. I think that as long as you are tipping, they just keep coming back to you! Played roulette and LOST lots of money so headed back to the hotel. Got back late so ordered room service, the food was very good.

March 9-

Our last day. We were planning on taking the red eye, so I called to get a late check out. Nascar was in town and the hotel had 100% occupancy- I couldn%26#39;t even pay for a late check out! Got a snack from the little cafe at the Mezzanine level of the casino. Spent a lot of the day walking around the strip and went to the Forum shops. Saw the Atlanis show in the mall and thought it was okay. Wouldn%26#39;t go out of my way to see it, but it was interesting. Went to Harrahs and gambled a bit. Hung out at Carnival Court and listened to the live music for a while. Went and watched the Bellagio fountains for one last time- I can not see that enough. I think it is the best free attraction in Vegas by miles. I absolutely love it, it makes me almost cry every time I see it! Went back to the Aladdin and wandered around Dessert Passage. Got convinced to go to a show at the V Theatre and saw the Nathon Burton Comedy Magic show. Did get discount tickets, but it was still $50 for the two of us. I have to say and I hate doing this, but the show was AWFUL. I felt that it was a complete waste of money. The set up was bad and the ushers kept on seating people and moving people after the show had started. We were not impressed with the comedy nor the magic and in fact were angry after the show! But if nothing else, it was a place to sit and relax for an hour- if we can get anything good out of it.

Done with gambling, buffets and walking, we decided just to head to the airport and be on our way.

Overall had a great trip.

The Aladdin was nice. It is very central, however I found we spent so much more time down at the South end of the strip so we did A LOT of walking! More walking than I have ever done . Would probably stay there again if the rates are good. I think the Planet Hollywood change is good and am excited to see the end product.

Thanks for reading!

What was your husbands thoughts on this trip. Did he enjoy himself? Ever wonder how many miles you actually walk as the other sites seem so close and you keep walking and walking....

Hope you enjoyed yourself and thanks for the TR.

Trip Report- Aladdin/Planet Hollwood March 6-10

Except for the bad show, sounds like a fun trip!

Hi amandajoy,

Was the pool at the Westin crowded and did you try the hot tub?

What were the complimentary shampoo %26amp; bath products like?

A few years ago when I stayed at the Aladdin, the complimentary shampoo %26amp; bath products smelled bad. I was wondering if they had improved the products.

amandajoy thanks for the TR. glad you had both had a great time.

i know what you mean about the bellagio fountains. i get the same way each time i see them :)

i have to agree on the poster asking about the shampoo/conditioner. i normally don%26#39;t care much about this stuff. but when we stayed at aladdin (may/05) the bath products smelled absolutely awful!

Great TR! Bummer about the bad show... we were considering seeing that show with the two free show ticket coupons we had. It sounds like it wouldn%26#39;t have even been enjoyable for free :o( Good to know about the westin! I wish I had known that last time we were in town. You mentioned they are constantly adding new slots, does that mean the big empty area near the front of the casino has slots again?

L1021, we got back late last month and the products were much better than the old Aladdin ones. Still not as nice as the Venetian%26#39;s, but they smelled pretty good. :)

Thanks for the TR. I am glad to hear that the Aladdin buffet is back to its former glory. Last time I was in Vegas it was in limbo and I didn%26#39;t get to try it.

Thanks AmandaJoy,

We%26#39;re off to Aladdin in about three weeks, so glad to hear of a good experience.

Thank you for taking the time to do a TR. Many people ask how the updating is going on at Planet Hollywood. This should help a great deal.

Thanks for the great T.R. We plan to stop in at Aladdin in a couple of weeks to see Stomp %26amp; after reading your report I think we will go a few hours early %26amp; spend some time there before the show.

Thanks for the TR! We are staying there twice in May and stayed there last year so will be interested to see all the changes.

The only thing I don%26#39;t like about the Aladdin is that there isn%26#39;t much hanging or drawer space if you are staying longer than a couple of days. We are there for 11 nights and although we travel light, I don%26#39;t know where we are going to put everything.
