Why is Vegas catering only to the wealthy?

I dont know about others..I am a middle class person and I find Vegas prices crazy....every thing costs a arm and leg.

Why is Vegas catering only to the wealthy?

Sorry to disagree with you but Vegas is a middle class playground. It just depends what you are looking for to do when you are there. There are multiple fine medium priced hotels on the strip such as the Harrah%26#39;s locations along with some of the MGM properties. For food there are good valued buffets and places like Ellis Island just off the strip. $5.00 tables can be had on the strip at places like O%26#39;Sheas and Casino Royale. Even some shows can be had for 1/2 price if you look hard.

The only overpriced things are rooms at the Bellagio and such, but there are people that consider them worth the money if they are not going to Vegas for the gambling. They like eating in fancy restaurants and are not rich.

Overall I think Vegas can be had for the same price as Disney or less than a trip to the Islands as long as your gambling has its limits.

Why is Vegas catering only to the wealthy?

Yes, Vegas can be pricey, alright!

So is Hawaii, and Disneyworld, and all the other touristy places on the planet! Why, even here in Canada... Have you ever been to Banff? Lake Louise? Jasper?

If you want to travel, you must pay the price. It%26#39;s all about making money! I, too, am middle class, and I know when I get to Vegas for my 2 week stint this July, I better be prepared to ante up! Save your $$, go, and have a great time!

Also, check out cheapovegas.com you might find some useful information for cutting corners!

The pricing of any holiday destination is all about supply and demand. Vegas hotels are a real bargain when you compare like for like in various large cities in the US. Bellagio or Wynn are often under $200 a night, can%26#39;t find a hotel that nice for the price in Boston, NY, LA, Chicago or Philly etc etc.

I disagree. I can go to LV for 5 days for less than half of what I would pay to go to Disney, Los Angeles, on a cruise, to Florida, any place.

Most vacation destinations don%26#39;t have the wide range of hotels, food, shows, etc for every price range.

Because the wealthy have more money to spend.

Vegas can be expensive unless you check things out in advance.

Plan ahead. Know where to go and how much it will cost.

Vegas is a place for DREAMERS and those in touch with reality.

The short answer to your question is... they figured out they could! When the Bellagio became a success, it became evident that people are willing to spend more on accommodations, dining and shows. Add to that the poker craze, which made gambling acceptable to many people who didn%26#39;t even think about going to Vegas before, and you have increased demand. They%26#39;re not catering exclusively to the wealthy - they%26#39;ve just perfected the art of squeezing every last buck out of patrons.

If you avoid weekends, holidays and major conventions, maybe stay at one of the better off-Strip hotels, it can be quite affordable. I once managed to go 5 times in one year on a salary in the mid-20s (air was free, though.) Do some research, there are bargains out there to be found!

Manny, Vegas is all things to all people. One can stay DT, play penny slots, eat buffets and use coupons and have a total Vegas fix. Or you can pony up big bucks at Wynn. It, like life, is what you make of it. Or are you a Chateau Lafitte guy with a Pepsi budget???

underpar LOL funny u say that cause i have a friend that is just like that... but his budget is more around a sams club soda:)

since coming home some of my jewllery is missing, hoping it has not been stolen in transit, so would like to check that i have not left it in the hotel. can anyone give me an email adress for mirage hotel so that i can ask if this has been left by mistake

    thanks

    left jewllery in mirage hotel

    Try guestservices@mirage.com.

I hope you%26#39;re reunited with your jewelry and that your trip was otherwise wonderful!

    Call them.

I have just emailed them at guest service if this does not work i shall try calling them other than that we had a great time for 7 days and night in vegas only draw back was the long flight

thanks for email and phone number and such a quick reply

    i would call them asap

Hope your reunited with your jewelry. I quess this is just a reminder to all of us to leave anything of value at home when we travel.

I certainly wouldn%26#39;t wait to get an email response - I%26#39;d be on the phone!

We had that happen in NYC with nice clothes. We left them hanging in the closet. That evening, after we got home, we called guest services. We knew exactly where the clothes were.

Guest Services transferred us to housekeeping. Every person we spoke to said that we left nothing in the room. We know for a fact the clothes were left there. Two of the items were beautiful Ralph Lauren dress shirts and they were new!! That hurt. On top of that, we tipped housekeeping.

Let us know what happens. I wish you alot of luck.

just had an email back from the mirage, but they have not been able to find it in the room. i guess house keeping thought it was part of the tip. very dissapointed but did not spoil my holiday but a sad memory of one peice that had sentimental value rather than money value!

I am sorry you lost your jewelry and hope it is returned to you. I had some of mine come up missing in Reno NV. I foolishly left it in a little bag in the bathroom. My husband was asleep and I had gone down to gamble a little. Well, one thing led to another......my husband found me and we didn%26#39;t return to the room till noon or so. The room had been cleaned and the jewelry was gone. I reported it to hotel security. They acutally had me tell them where and what time I had last worn it in the hotel (which I knew because of a dinner reservation). Did no good, it was never recovered. Live and learn! I have also had prescriptions stolen from hotel rooms before. Not safe to leave anything of value or that is difficult to replace out in the open.

    Birthday freebies?

    Hi,

Next month is hubby%26#39;s 33 b-day and we are going to LV to celebrate.

Are there any special freebies for birthday-ers? I have heard about the japanese restaurant at the Aladdin (PHollywood?) Passage, but no more.

I know there is lots of stuff for people turning 21 but... if you are older? :%26#39;(

    greets and thanks in advance!!!

    Birthday freebies?

It never hurts to mention that it%26#39;s his birthday and see what happens. Most restaurants I would think would at least throw in a little dessert with a candle. Sometimes hotels will upgrade your room. A lounge might even waive the cover charge. Nothing is guaranteed, but there%26#39;s only one way to find out...

    Birthday freebies?

The Nevada Palace you get a coffee mug, tee shirt and $5 blackjacks pays double.

Santa Fe Station You get a free $25 bet. Not a mtch play just a free bet.

If you sign up on Magianno%26#39;s website they send you a coupon for your birthday, but I can%26#39;t remember if it%26#39;s 2 for 1 entree or just 10% off the bill.

Mcmullans Irish Pub on W. Tropicana across from Orleans. Free Birthday meal. Look up their web site and sign up.

last year ceasars mailed me a card,I think it was for dining credits? ,try their promotions desk

google ';vegas values report';. If restaurant/casino, has a birthday special, it should be there.

    March Madness

What a fun weekend, best of the year. All the hotels had special places set up for the game, places like the Joint at the Hardrock or they used their ballrooms. Only problem is that if I was single I would be a little upset because there are never enough girls in town.

    March Madness

LOL. your post gave me a chuckle.

As BubbaQ pointed out to me there are only two types of women that sit n watch MM. The first is there to watch the games so you best not bother her. The second is there to keep an eye on her man.

    March Madness

Good to hear! I%26#39;m headed there for the Sweet 16 round on Wednesday. Do you remember which sportsbooks may have been offering free drinks? :)

Who in their right mind would bring their girlfriend/wife to Vegas to watch March Madness????

Every year I head out for the Sweet 16 round. And like a good husband, I invite my wife. I explain that the point is to watch college basketball all day, every day of the trip. In a way-over-crowded room full of drunk guys. And we don%26#39;t even care that much who wins, just who covers. She hasn%26#39;t joined me yet.

Can u tell me when March Madness ends? being from England im not sure what its all about. Six of us will be in Vegas between 22-29th March. Is there anywhere we should really make an effort to go to or, anywhere we should really avoid?

    Thanks in advance

waterhouse, the March Madness regionals take place over four days of your stay, March 22-25. Just where you go and where you avoid depends on how much of a fan of college basketball you are. The sports books and just about all other good sports viewing locations will be absolutely crazy but nowhere else should be affected.

OK Guys - I%26#39;m the girl at the bar with her husband and his 4 guy friends and I wouldn%26#39;t miss it for the world. First I am a huge basketball fan I%26#39;ll take watching the games over shopping ANY DAY! Second my husband and the guys usually go out when I turn in early-I can only drink for 10 hours then I shut down. How you guys do it is beyond me!

So don%26#39;t mess with us basketball ladies-there is nothing wrong with those of us who enjoy watching/cheering/betting on the games.

And don%26#39;t forget: winners don%26#39;t just win THEY COVER!

Had a blast can%26#39;t wait to do it again next year!

    Thanks blagger much appreciated

Which hotels don't let get kids in?

I just saw the Bellagio ';no under 18s'; policy. Which other hotels won%26#39;t be able to go inside with kids?

    Thanks!

Which hotels don't let get kids in?

they cannot go into any casinos at all. no strollers in lots of places.

    How old are the kids?

Which hotels don't let get kids in?

The Bellagio doesn%26#39;t enforce the policy.

I know that they cannot go into the casinos, but I am talking about the actual hotels themself - such as the lobby, shops etc...

    They are 9 and 16.

Open_Wide - I appreciate your reply. Do you think it would be okay to visit the shops in the Bellagio with our children?

Just got back and there weren%26#39;t any places the kids weren%26#39;t allowed. (ages 12,16) We took them to bellagio conservatory and didn%26#39;t have any problems. i just wrote a trip report on this. How old are your kids?

If the kids are well behaved you shouldn%26#39;t have a problem in the shops. Its really no different than shopping in any high-end store.

I don%26#39;t think you can take strollers into the Wynn unless you are a guest. I have seen children in the conservatory and shop areas of the Bellagio so I don%26#39;t know how strict their policy is enforced.

Kids can go into ANY of the hotels. They just can%26#39;t go into the casino area. Also, as stated, kids can go into the Wynn, but you just can%26#39;t take strollers in there.

They can go in the high end shops, but be prepared for people to look at you and them. People who shop in those type stores do not want to see kids and most kids don%26#39;t want to be there either.

Think about when you were a kid, did you want to be shopping with your parents?

The Kids in Vegas debate goes back and forth, but in the end there are very few people who actually would admit if they were 100% truthful that they got to do everything they wanted to in Vegas with their kids.

If you stay at Wynn can you bring a stroller in? I ask because my cousin is getting married late next year in Vegas and my son and I will both be in the wedding. I might have a little one by then that would need to be in a stroller. Just an FYI, I wouldn%26#39;t be bringing my son with me if it wasn%26#39;t a family wedding. We are going to Vegas in May and he will be staying home.

    Ski Resort Recommendations

Coming to South Tahoe on wed and staying through friday. I have 2 days worth of lift tickets purchased that are good for Heavenly, Squaw Valley, Kirkwood, Sierra or Northstar. I%26#39;m a capable intermediate to expert skier and was hoping someone could make recommendations for which 2 to chose based on current conditions and overall terrain?

    Ski Resort Recommendations

Both Heavenly and Squaw have all slopes open except for one at each resort. Heavenly is expecting snow showers today. You cannot go wrong at either place.

But since you are going to SLT, Heavenly is absolutely the better choice.

    Ski Resort Recommendations

I was thinking Heavenly and Squaw also, but got a bit nervous reading some posts about the lack of snow. Thanks for the feedback, a 2nd opion is always appreciated.

Is it true they are planning a ';Love'; style Cirque show on Elvis? I hope the rumour%26#39;s true!

    Elvis show?

Yes, but its in the early stages of planning. Other Elvis in Vegas projects have also been hinted at by the new owners of the Elvis brand, who recently bought out the Elvis-A-Rama ( which is moving to Hawaii).
